I'm based in Asheville and travel to Charlotte for weddings, engagements and sessions. Or we meet halfway up a mountain.
Tell me your storyLet me be upfront: I don't have a Charlotte studio. I live in the mountains outside Asheville, a little over two hours up the road. I come to Charlotte because I love what the city gives a camera: old brick and new glass, stately houses under huge oaks, gardens, murals, and streetlights that come on right when the sky turns blue.
If you're a Charlotte couple who wants photos that feel more like a film than a photo booth, warm and golden, grainy black-and-white, real instead of posed, I'd love to hear your story.
Charlotte has some beautiful places to get married, and each one asks for something different. A historic house with deep porches and old trees. A rose garden in the middle of the city. A museum lobby full of light. I've written guides to a few, including The Duke Mansion, The Ballantyne, McGill Rose Garden and The Mint Museum Uptown.
For a wedding, I plan the drive so I'm there early and unhurried. Nobody should ever feel the photographer came from out of town.
My favorite city sessions happen at golden hour and run into blue hour. We walk, we stop for a coffee, we let the city do some of the work. A few places I like:
A lot of Charlotte couples tell me what they really want is a mountain. Good news: Chimney Rock and Blowing Rock are both roughly two hours from Uptown, and Asheville is a little more. A sunrise engagement session on a ridge, or a full elopement on a grassy bald, makes a weekend trip into part of the story.

No. I live and work in Asheville, about 130 miles and a little over two hours from Uptown Charlotte by car. I travel to Charlotte for weddings, engagements and sessions.

Start about an hour before sunset. We get warm, low light between the buildings first, then the soft blue light after sunset when the streetlights come on, which is my favorite part.
