Wedding photography that feels like the film of your day

Cinematic, unposed wedding photography for couples marrying in Asheville, across Western North Carolina, and in Charlotte.

Tell me your story

A wedding day moves fast. The parts you will want back later are rarely the ones on the schedule: your dad fixing his tie twice, your hands shaking on the vows, the friend who cries before you do.

I photograph weddings the way I photograph everything, like a film you are starring in without having to act. Warm light where there is light, deep shadows where there are shadows, and a lot of black-and-white for the moments that feel like memory before they are even over.

I'm based in Asheville, so mountain weddings are home for me. I also travel to Charlotte and wherever your story takes us.

What I'm looking for all day

I care less about the perfect lineup and more about what happens a second after it. The laugh that breaks the pose. The look between you while everyone else is looking at the cake.

So I work quietly. I'll give you a few gentle prompts when we step away for portraits, and the rest of the day I stay close enough to see everything and far enough that you forget I'm there.

Planning a day that photographs beautifully

Most of what makes wedding photos beautiful is decided long before the day: when the ceremony starts, where the sun will be, and whether there is breathing room in the timeline.

Once you book, we build the photo side of your timeline together. A few things I always think about:

  • Ceremony time and golden hour. In the mountains, the sun drops behind the ridges earlier than the official sunset, so we plan portraits with that in mind.
  • A quiet twenty minutes for just the two of you. A first look, a walk, or slipping away at dusk. It's often everyone's favorite part of the gallery.
  • Family photos that are fast and kind. A short list, one person who knows everyone, and we're done before cocktails get cold.
  • A rain plan that is not a disappointment. Fog and soft rain are beautiful on camera. Covered porches, barn doors and big windows are our friends.

Mountain weddings and city weddings

Western North Carolina gives us long views, old barns, fog that rolls in at the worst or best moment, and light that turns gold over the ridges. Browse the wedding venues I've written guides for, from Biltmore to a farm on the French Broad River.

Charlotte gives us something different: historic mansions, gardens, stone, glass and city light. If you're marrying in the Queen City, start with my Charlotte page. It's about two hours from my home in Asheville and I'm happy to make the drive.

After the wedding

Your gallery is edited by hand, one frame at a time, in a warm, film-inspired style with plenty of black-and-white. It's ready to print, share and keep for the rest of your life.

Collections and investment are sent with your inquiry, so tell me your date, your venue and a little about the two of you.

Questions

Asked and answered

Do you travel for weddings outside Asheville?

Yes. I photograph weddings across Western North Carolina and travel to Charlotte, which is about two hours from Asheville. Tell me where you're getting married and travel details come with your collections.

Can we do a first look?

You don't have to, but I'll gently recommend one if your ceremony is late in the day. It gives us unhurried portraits while everyone is fresh, and it's often the most emotional few minutes of the day.

What happens if it rains?

We adjust, and the photos are often better for it. Soft overcast light is flattering, fog is cinematic, and I always scout covered spots on the property ahead of time.
