Asheville Wedding Venues · Biltmore

Biltmore Estate wedding photographer

Biltmore lists eight wedding settings, from a rose-walled garden in Antler Hill Village to a hilltop facing the big house. Here is how I would plan the photographs for each.

Tell me your story

I live in Asheville, a short drive from the estate. So this is not a recap. It is how I would walk the property with you, built from what Biltmore itself publishes about its venues.

One thing first. Biltmore's estate policy says bridal and wedding photography is not allowed unless your wedding is scheduled at Biltmore. That makes this page for couples who are booking, or thinking about booking, a wedding there. If you want portraits or an engagement session on the estate, start with my Biltmore sessions page instead.

Garden weddings and the glass-roofed backdrop

The Walled Garden is an outdoor setting in the Gardens area, with the glass-roofed Conservatory behind it. Biltmore lists it for 45 to 100 guests. Gardens like this are kind to photographs when the sun is low. Midday light makes harsh stripes under the trees, so I would aim your portraits for the last stretch before dinner and tuck anything earlier into open shade along the walls.

Cedric's Garden, in Antler Hill Village, is the smaller cousin. Biltmore describes wooden gates and climbing roses over the walls, a stone path to Cedric's Loft for cocktail hour, and dinner back in the garden under bistro lights. That path is a gift for a quiet walk between ceremony and cocktails, and the bistro lights are where the evening frames come from.

Hilltop, barn and veranda

Diana is an outdoor hilltop under a grove of hemlocks, with views toward Biltmore House and the Blue Ridge behind it. Open sky means the light does the work. On your venue visit, go at the hour your ceremony will happen and watch where the sun sits, because I would build the portrait loop around that.

Antler Hill Barn sits beneath a forested hillside above pastures and the French Broad River. Lioncrest has a covered, open-air veranda with woodland views and a Grand Ballroom upstairs by a spiral staircase. Deerpark has floor-to-ceiling windows onto a courtyard, which makes ceremony-to-reception moves easy to follow with a camera.

How the day could flow

Biltmore's packages include a two-night stay at The Inn on Biltmore Estate, so getting ready can happen on site. I would start with window light in the room, the dress, the letters, the quiet before everyone arrives. The Inn also has the Belvedere Terrace, a Gallery with tall mountain-view windows, and an outdoor ceremony site called the Vista.

If you want a first look, I like a calm corner with a wall or a hedge behind you, away from guests. Then ceremony, family photos in one efficient block, and a short window of golden-hour portraits while cocktails run. Fifteen unhurried minutes alone together usually beats an hour of pictures.

Small weddings and seasons

I could not find an elopement option on biltmore.com. The smallest range listed is Antler Hill Barn, 20 to 50 guests, then Cedric's Garden at 27 to 60. Ask the wedding team what a very small day looks like.

The gardens change by month, and sunset arrives much earlier in winter. Ask what is in bloom for your date and build your ceremony time around the light you want, not only the guest list.

Questions

Asked and answered

Can I hire my own photographer for a Biltmore wedding?

Biltmore's policy allows bridal and wedding photography when your wedding is scheduled at the estate. I could not find a published rule on outside photographers, so ask your Biltmore wedding coordinator before you book anyone, including me.

Can I take engagement photos at Biltmore?

That is a separate question from a wedding. Biltmore has its own photography and commercial-shoot rules, so read them first. My Biltmore sessions page covers portraits and engagements.

Does Biltmore offer elopements?

Its venue page does not mention elopements. The smallest wedding range listed is 20 to 50 guests at Antler Hill Barn. Ask the wedding team directly.
